VinFast Electric Scooter Sales in Vietnam: The Strategy Behind Its Growth
VinFast reported 406,453 Vietnam electric scooter sales in 2025. Learn how its models, dealers, swapping and incentives built scale—and what suppliers should verify.
Summary
- VinFast reported 406,453 electric scooters sold into Vietnam in 2025, making it the country's leading electric scooter brand on company-reported sales.
- The IEA estimates Vietnam sold roughly 735,000 electric two-wheelers in 2025; VinFast's figure does not establish leadership across all gasoline and electric motorcycles.
- VinFast's strategy combines a broad model range, 600-plus distributors, battery and service infrastructure, and purchase incentives.
- Its preliminary H1 2026 figure of 429,175 is for global e-scooter and e-bike deliveries, not Vietnam retail scooter sales.
VinFast has become Vietnam's leading electric scooter brand on reported 2025 sales, but it has not overtaken Honda across the whole motorcycle market. VinFast said it sold 406,453 electric scooters into Vietnam in 2025. The company describes that as a 473% increase against its 2024 delivery figure, although the earlier figure was global. For overseas parts suppliers, the signal is less about a single model and more about a combined system: product breadth, dealer reach, charging and swapping access, service coverage, and purchase incentives.
That system is scaling into 2026, although the newest headline figures need careful labels. VinFast's 429,175 preliminary H1 2026 deliveries cover e-scooters and e-bikes globally. They are not Vietnam retail scooter registrations. This article separates the numbers, explains the strategy, and identifies what a supplier should verify before forecasting component or replacement-parts demand.
How large is VinFast's electric scooter position?
In its January 2026 sales release VinFast reported 406,453 electric scooters sold into the Vietnamese market in calendar 2025. It compared that with 70,977 e-scooters delivered globally in 2024 and called the gain 473%. The change in geographic scope means this is a company growth comparison, not a clean Vietnam-only year-on-year rate. The company also said the Evo family accounted for more than 250,000 2025 sales. These are company figures, not an independently audited vehicle-registration series.
The International Energy Agency's Global EV Outlook 2026 estimates about 735,000 electric two-wheelers sold in Vietnam in 2025, more than double the previous year and more than 20% of all new two-wheelers. That independent estimate supports the scale of the wider transition. Its product definitions and method differ from VinFast's company sales release, so dividing one number by the other would not produce a reliable audited market share.
These figures indicate momentum, but only like-for-like series should be used to calculate growth or share.
| Metric | Reported figure | Scope and limit |
|---|---|---|
| VinFast 2025 electric scooter sales | 406,453; company comparison +473% versus 2024 global deliveries | Vietnam, company-reported sales into market; not national registrations |
| IEA 2025 electric two-wheeler market | About 735,000; more than 20% of new two-wheelers | Vietnam, IEA estimate; broader market and potentially different vehicle definitions |

For a genuinely comparable near-term view, the two 2026 quarterly figures below use the same VinFast global e-scooter-and-e-bike delivery definition. The chart shows an acceleration in reported deliveries, not a Vietnam-only retail trend or a forecast for the rest of the year.
Q2 preliminary deliveries were roughly twice Q1 under the same company-reported global metric.

The growth strategy: product, channel, energy and incentives
VinFast's own 2025 release describes more than ten mainstream electric scooter models and over 600 official distributors nationwide. The Evo family's reported volume suggests that accessible, high-volume products led the expansion. In January 2026, VinFast announced new swap-compatible Evo, Feliz II, and Viper models and a wider roadmap spanning mainstream, premium, and sport segments. Announced future models should not be counted as delivered vehicles.
Distribution is paired with energy access. VinFast said in January 2026 that V-Green had installed an initial 4,500 battery-swap stations and was targeting 45,000 cabinets nationwide in Q1. The 4,500 figure is a company-reported installed count; the 45,000 figure in that announcement is a target. A later consumer page advertises 45,000 cabinets, but no independent field audit of powered, stocked, publicly usable locations was found. For a supplier, cabinet availability matters only when matched to compatible models, local utilization, and service capacity.
VinFast also reports trade-in programs, installment and purchase incentives, charging options, and aftersales support. The 2025 volume proves that the overall offer achieved large sales, but it does not isolate the effect of any one lever. Promotions may shift purchases between months, so suppliers should check sustained model-level demand after campaigns change.
What the newest filings do—and do not—prove
In its Q1 2026 SEC exhibit VinFast reported 143,136 global e-scooter-and-e-bike deliveries. It also said more than 93,000 scooters were shipped to Vietnam dealers in March while dealers placed more than 135,000 orders. Dealer orders, dealer shipments, consumer purchases, and vehicle registrations are different points in the sales chain. About 1% of Q1 e-scooter-and-e-bike deliveries went to related parties, according to the filing.
The preliminary Q2 filing reported 286,039 global e-scooter-and-e-bike deliveries, bringing H1 to 429,175. It does not provide a directly comparable 2026 Vietnam-only retail-scooter total. VinFast also does not publish motorcycle-only profitability in the cited materials. Strong sales therefore support a scale thesis, not a proven margin or replacement-parts revenue estimate.
VinFast's leadership is within electric scooters. Honda's 2025 Vietnam motorcycle volume remained much larger across its mostly gasoline lineup. VAMM association sales exclude VinFast and other nonmembers, so adding VinFast to a VAMM member total and calling the result official whole-market share would be unsound.
How overseas parts suppliers should respond
- Segment the opportunity. Brake, tire, bearing, suspension, lighting, and other wear-part families may transfer across powertrains, but model-level specifications and service intervals govern fit.
- Identify the route to market. OEM purchasing, authorized aftersales, and independent repair are separate channels. VinFast sales growth does not by itself grant access to a proprietary parts network.
- Bring evidence for EV-specific products. Battery, motor, controller, charger, and electrical suppliers should prepare ratings, testing, labels, safety instructions, diagnostics, and warranty files. TLM's EV parts compliance guide covers the first import-readiness questions.
- Validate service demand before stocking. Track model mix, installed-base age, mileage, failure rates, spare-part availability, and the capability of the intended dealer or repair network.
- Test infrastructure claims locally. Station count alone does not show which compatible batteries are stocked, whether cabinets are active, or whether users and service teams can rely on them.
Hanoi's low-emission-zone policy adds pressure for electric adoption, but its July 2026 plan began as a phased pilot in selected Hoan Kiem areas, not a blanket gasoline-motorcycle ban across Ring Road 1. Suppliers should watch the actual implementation timetable instead of assuming a sudden nationwide demand shift. TLM's broader electric two-wheeler market guide provides the demand backdrop; the companion Honda and HEAD strategy analysis shows a different dealer-infrastructure model.
